Effects

You maybe wondering how I get some of the results you see, it's Photoshop.  Photoshop CS4 (until I upgrade later this year) to be exact, along with a couple hundred Actions.  What is an Action?  It is a saved set of commands and operations that can be utilized later on.  This helps make the photographer more efficient and helps standardize results.  No more of the how much of this or how little of that type situations.  At this time I do not utilize my own Photoshop Acitons but instead have purchased or collected Actions from access the worldwide web.  I thought I would share an image treated by several different Photoshop actions to give the reader an example of how much can be done with one image.  I have also included links to some websites that have great actions.
Enjoy

Multi-Family Shoot

Mid September Rustedvan Photography did a multi-family photo shoot near the Three Folks Nature Area in the Snoqualmie Valley.  This location as an old family farm and has several buildings on site as well as, pasture land, old fruit trees and a steam.  If that wasn't enough, it is all at the base of Mt. Si.  I have to give a great deal of the planning credit to my wife, without her this would never have succeeded.  Her vision and organization turned a good day into a magical one.
The shoot was envisioned as a laid back casual shoot, with families coming and going based upon the loosest of schedules.  While families waited they provided refreshments and a place to relax and the kids were free to run in the pastures and explore the site.  Six families took part in the shoot and everyone came away with wonderful photos and good memories.
A big thanks to all that participated and assisted in making this a magical and successful day.  I hope to see everyone again next year.

Rasmussen Kids

In early September I had the pleasure of photographing the Rasmussen children once again.  It turned out to be an epic two and half hour, three location shoot on a warm muggy late summer afternoon.
We started out at a recent additional to the King County parks system, an old farm near the Three Folks Nature Area.  This location had several wonderful locations to use as backdrops.  The location was so much fun and produced such amazing results that I decided to use it for a multi-family shoot later in September (more on that later).    For the next location, I chose the brick facade in front of Northwest Custom Cycle in Snoqualmie.  The red brick produced a nice backdrop and some excellent results.  Finally to grab a couple last shots and to let the kids run around we went to Sandy Cove Park also in Snoqualmie.  I shot the Rasmussen kids there last year, the park didn't disappoint once again, the late afternoon light made for some great photos.
Again much thanks to the Rasmussen family for giving the honor to shoot their kids again.  I hope I can do it again in the future.

New Camera

I purchased an Olympus E-5 and it arrived a few days ago.  I will be looking forward to putting the camera to good use.  This photo is of my son, while we played chess.

Lucy

Recently I have had an old photo of one of my sister's dogs get some recognition by the people at Photographic Platform (www.photographicplatform.com).  The photo as submitted had slight crop, mostly because the original has some distractions around the edges.  I personally I have enjoy the distractions, it gives the photo a certain WPA era feel.  Or at least that's what I think when I look at it.  One suggestion I received was to tighten the crop further.  So I gave it a go, and focus really becomes Lucy's eyes.  Still I think I prefer the original, recycle bins and all.

The Ramussen Family Part II

As mentioned I photographed the Ramussen kids a while back.  Most of the shoot was done at the Snoqualmie Depot and at Sandy Cove Park on the banks of the Snoqualmie River in downtown Snoqualmie.  The angle of the late summer sun and trees made Sandy Cove Park an especially nice place to shoot.  So, here are a few more photos from that shoot.

The Ramussen Family

This last weekend, I had the opportunity to spend some time photographing the Rasmussens.  Well mostly the kids.  It was a beautiful late summer evening in the upper Snoqualmie Valley, and light was magnificent.  I'll post more photos in the coming days.

Japanese Garden

At the end of October I had the opportunity to photograph the Japanese Garden at Washington Park in Seattle. It was a rather rainy Saturday morning but it was well worth the soaking. The colors were truly amazing even on a dark and gloomy day. Here are a hand full of shots from that day.

Photo Used

I have had this photograph used in the local visitor's guide. So check out the visitor's guide or something. Or better yet check my website.

Rattlesnake Sunset

A few days ago I was lucky enough to wander by Rattlesnake Lake right about sunset. It was a lovely sight, especially after all the rain we have had lately. Enjoy the photos.
